The Brookhaven Friends of Music is privileged to present a chamber concert by members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at 3:00 pm in the Performance Hall and streaming. We are honored that the Boston Symphony Orchestra has chosen Brookhaven for this special program. Glen Cherry, violin; Adam Esbensen, cello; and Yoko Hagino, piano, will present a program that opens with Lera Auerbach’s four-minute Postlude for violin and piano and features Tchaikovsky’s substantial Piano Trio in A minor, Op. 50. The Trio is a response to the 1881 death of the composer’s friend, the musician Nikolai Rubenstein. The first movement is marked “Pezzo elegiac”—“Elegaic piece.” In the second movement, the composer’s imagination for color and texture conjures a wealth of moods and characters through a series of variations on the pretty tune heard at the start.
