AHA! Lecture: Adelaide MacMurray-Cooper: Three Legacies of Emily Dickinson

March 6, 2023 @ 11:00 am

The AHA! Lecture series presents resident Adelaide MacMurray-Cooper on the Three Legacies of Emily Dickinson at 11:00 am in the Performance Hall and streaming. Adelaide (Lolly) MacMurray-Cooper has had a long fascination with all things Emily Dickinson.  In this illustrated lecture, she will share three legacies of the famous poet. 1. The scandals around her brother Austin’s blatant adultery, and its ongoing impact on Dickinson scholarship. 2. The restoration of Emily Dickinson’s original writings, after nearly seventy years of misrepresentation. 3.  Little-Brown’s miraculous publication of Adelaide’s mother’s novel in 2007. Adelaide MacMurray-Cooper is a graduate of Wellesley College and the London School of Economics.  She has spent eighteen years in independent schools, both in administration and as teacher of history.  In a mid-career change, she qualified as a Certified Financial Planner.  Her practice, based in Cambridge, specialized in empowering women in the financial sphere.  After retirement in 2004, she has volunteered in hospice care and prison visiting.  Like her mother, she writes poetry.
