The Brookhaven Friends of Music is delighted to present Trio Luminis on Friday, September 8, at 7:30 pm in the Performance Hall and Streaming. The program consists of two works by Johannes Brahms—the Sonata for Violin and Piano, Op. 108, in d minor and the Trio for Violin, Natural Horn, and Piano, Op. 40, in Eb Major.
The Sonata, a late work, is a lushly romantic piece that performers love to play. The Horn Trio was composed for the unusual combination of violin, natural horn, and piano, although it is most often played today with the modern horn. When listening to the piece, notice that the sound of the natural horn is at once quieter, yet warmer than that of the modern horn.
We at Brookhaven are hugely lucky to hear the work as intended by Brahms. Performers are Daniel Kurganov (violin), Steven Gross (natural horn), and Constantine Finehouse (piano).
