The Brookhaven Friends of Music presents pianist Renana Gutman at 3:00 pm in the Performance Hall and streaming. Renana’s program centers on Frédéric Chopin and opens with the French Suite in C minor, No. 2 of J.S. Bach, who greatly influenced Chopin. We will hear two of Chopin’s last major works, the Barcarolle in F-sharp major, Op. 60, and the Polonaise-fantaisie in A-flat major, Op. 61. The program also includes works by composers who were influenced by Chopin: Claude Debussy, and Gabriel Fauré. The final pieces are two of the 5 Jazz Etudes by Erwin Schulhoff: “Tango” and “Toccata,” which is based on a ragtime piece by Zez Confrey, “Kitten on the Keys.”
