POSTPONED – BFM Concert: Ron Lowry, cello, and Lois Shapiro, piano

February 19, 2023 @ 3:00 pm

This concert has been postponed to a date to be determined.

The Brookhaven Friends of Music presents Ron Lowry (cello) and Lois Shapiro (piano) at 3:00 pm in the Performance Hall and streaming. Their program, Music that Lights its own Pathway Home, includes Beethoven’s Sonata #4 in C Major, Op. 102, No. 1; Sulkhan Tsintsadze’s Pieces on Folk Themes (from the country of Georgia); and César Franck’s Sonata in A Major (transcribed for cello and piano). In all three works, the music is shaped and transformed as the composer develops his material. The sonatas by Beethoven and Franck move from darkness and anger in the early movements into a kind of joyful “lightness of being” at the end. The pieces by Sulkhan Tsintsadze are inspired by his cultural tradition, from which he found the pathway to his true destiny. As T.S. Eliot said, “…the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.”
