Once again the Brookhaven Friends of Music are delighted to welcome the talented young musicians from Project STEP at 3:00 pm in the Performance Hall and streaming. Nine student string players from 1st to 11th grade will be playing for us in person, accompanied by Joy Cline Phinney, the well-known pianist who has performed here many times. Their program will include pieces by Bach, Mozart, Schumann, and Elgar for beginning and advanced students.
Project STEP, a non-profit located in Boston for over 40 years, is a string training education program for young musicians from communities that are historically underrepresented in classical music. Setting the highest standards for their students, teachers provide private lessons in a classical string instrument, along with music theory, mentoring, and performance opportunities for students in K-12. Let’s make sure these students have a large and supportive audience!
