BLC Lecture: Mahzarin Banaji – Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People

March 29, 2023 @ 7:30 pm

The Brookhaven Lecture Committee is pleased to sponsor a lecture by Professor Mahzarin Banaji entitled, Blindspot: Hidden Biases of Good People at 7:30 pm in the Performance Hall and streaming. Banaji, an experimental psychologist, is the Richard Clarke Cabot Professor of Social Ethics in the Department of Psychology at Harvard.  She studies thinking and feeling as they unfold in social context and is a pioneer of implicit bias research.  This research aims to understand biases that operate below the level of conscious thought to influence human judgments, beliefs, and actions.  Where do these biases come from? At what age do we acquire them?  Can we overcome their impact on our conscious thinking and judgment? With her colleague Anthony Greenwald Banaji developed the Implicit-Association Test (IAT) to measure implicit biases including tracking changes in such biases over time.

This talk will not be recorded.
