CL Lecture: Michael Perry Slideshow Presentation: Sentinels of the Coast: Lighthouses of Southern Maine

May 19, 2022 @ 7:30 pm

Is there anything as romantic as a lighthouse perched upon a craggy ledge, peering out to sea in wait for mariners in distress? Join Freeport, Maine’s Michael Perry for a beautiful slide show journey of the Sentinels of the Coast: Lighthouses of Southern Maine. We will travel along the coast of Maine from Whaleback Ledge Light in Kittery to the Rockland Breakwater Light. Along the way we will visit all shapes and sizes of lights both offshore and on the mainland. Maine features 64 lighthouses. This beautiful program will focus on those lights close to home, some on rugged headlands, others on secluded islands. Wonderful stories and legends surround many of the lights, including the story of the faithful dog, Sailor, who the keeper of Wood Island Light in Saco Bay trained to grab the fog bell rope in his mouth and ring the bell on foggy days! Colorful pictures of the lights and surrounding landscapes, fun stories and historical anecdotes, smiles and laughter for all! Lots of special memories rekindled! And a great way to keep summer in our hearts! Join us at 7:30 pm in the Large Meeting Room.
