Opera lecturer, Erika Reitshamer returns for to speak on Verdi’s Falstaff at 2:00 pm in the Large Meeting Room. Falstaff is based on Shakespeare’s play The Merry Wives of Windsor and scenes from Henry IV, Part 1 and 2. It was Verdi’s last opera. Sir John Falstaff develops a scheme to acquire money – he will woo two wealthy matrons and take advantage of their husband’s wealth. He writes two identical love letters that cause him nothing but trouble. The two ladies plot their revenge. Falstaff accepts that he has been made a figure of fun but points out that he remains the real source of wit in others. He who laughs last, laughs best.
