The Brain and the Mind Lecture Series: Josh Sanes – Brain Basics: How Does it Function and Malfunction

September 29, 2022 @ 4:30 pm

A weekly series of six presentations is planned dealing with issues related to the complex but extraordinarily important issues of the functioning of the brain, the workings of the mind, and how these two relate to some of the diseases of the mind and the brain, particularly in the elderly. Josh Sanes, the Harvard neurobiologist who until recently spent 16 years as the Director of the Center for Brain Science and six years as the Co-Director of the Harvard Brain Science Institute, will launch the series with the first lecture “Brain Basics: How does it Function and Malfunction” on Thursday, September 29, at 4:30 pm in the Performance Hall. For 99% of human history, direct investigations of the brain, the mind, and their functions were impossible. That is no longer so. The aim of this program is to give you a glimpse into this remarkable progress. The purpose of this series is not to educate you in contemporary neurobiology but rather to inform you of the extraordinary progress being made. Attend one session, attend them all, the choice is yours. More information on subsequent session topics will become available as the series commences.
