STEM Lecture: Frank Fuchs – The Biological Cost of Physical Inactivity

The STEM Talk, The Biological Cost of Physical Inactivity by resident Frank Fuchs will be given at 10:30 am in the Performance Hall and streaming. Since antiquity exercise has been promoted as a means of enhancing our physical well-being. However, until recently there has been little understanding of the mechanisms that link exercise and health. New insights have come from recent research showing that physical inactivity is a risk factor for some 30 diseases, including at least 13 different types of cancer. These risks can be at least partly minimized via a complex pattern of communication between the active muscles and all of the other organ systems in the body.
