The Brain and the Mind Lecture Series, Part 2 starts with a Brain Basics and How the Human Brain Develops and Evolves by Josh Sanes at 7:30 pm in the Performance Hall. Last year, a series of sessions on “The Brain and the Mind” covered a variety of topics starting with some basics about how the brain works, then going on to discuss special features of the human brain, the relationship of the mind to the brain, and the biological basis of brain disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease. The talks were well received but there was way too much to cover, so we will kick off a second series on September 28. Following a review of brain basics (structure and function), we will introduce some of the key steps in the evolution and development of the brain. Later lectures in the series will delve into vision and blindness, learning and memory, consciousness, and the subconscious.
